Coagulants and Flocculants

Coagulants and Flocculants

by cwater

Coagulation and flocculation are an essential part of raw water treatment as well as wastewater treatment.

Coagulants are used in the pre-treatment stage to reduce the turbidity of inlet raw water so as to make it easier to treat further before its use in any industry or for municipal supply.

In wastewater treatment, coagulants and flocculants chemically enhance primary treatment to reduce suspended solids and organic loads from primary clarifiers. This stage combined with secondary treatment helps in achieving treated water quality that is easier to reuse or to meet discharge norms with minimal further treatment.

We offer a range of anionic, cationic, and non-ionic polyelectrolytes for treatment of raw water and wastewater as well as for de-watering of sludge generated from the effluent treatment plant.

Our coagulants and flocculants are used across sectors such as Textile, Steel, Dairy, Mining, Paper, Electroplating, Food, Hotels, Municipal, to name a few.

Textile Industry Products

Textile wastewater contains dyes in combination with a variety of contaminants. As environmental legislation requires textile mills to treat their effluent to meet discharge limits, coagulation and flocculation play a vital role in helping the mills meet this requirement.

Kem Fix DC 400

Kem Fix DC 400 is an organic coagulant based on quaternary ammonium polymer. It is particularly effective for decolorization of effluent wastewater containing acid and disperse dyes. COD reduction is obtained as a result of the settling that takes place post treatment.

Kem Fix DC 500

Kem Fix DC 500 is an organic, biodegradable cationic polymer that is highly effective at coagulating highly coloured wastewater in textile and dyes industry. Charge neutralisation occurs at colloidal and suspended particles which tends to eliminate colour, COD and TSS.

Kem Floc 6294

Kem Floc 6294 is a synthetic, medium molecular weight anionic powder flocculant. It has been specifically developed for solid-liquid separation in raw water and wastewater applications. It accelerates the sedimentation rate resulting in rapid dewatering in high sheared applications.

Steel Industry Products

Steel manufacturing consumes large volumes of water across various processes and also generates wastewater containing salts, suspended solids, organic and inorganic compounds, among other contaminants. Chembond’s coagulants and flocculants play a crucial role in the treatment of this wastewater and in rendering it suitable for reuse. This not only reduces the ecological footprint of the industry but saves operating costs.

Kemfloc 5276

Kemfloc 5276 is a high molecular weight synthetic flocculant based on a co-polymer of acrylamide and sodium acrylate. It has been extensively used in conjunction with a compatible coagulant in water treatment and in water-based process applications for solid-liquid separation.

Dairy Industry Products

Food processing industries generate wastewater with high biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Amongst food processing industries, dairy processing industries pose major challenges to treatment of wastewater on two counts – the volume of wastewater generated per day, and the volume of wastewater generated per liter of produced milk (0.2 to 10 liters wastewater per liter of produced milk).

Wastewater is generated right from the receiving station through milk bottling, cheese, butter, and ice cream production sections. The most important organic materials in the wastewater are fat, lactose and proteins (casein). Cream, butter, cheese, and whey production sections are the major sources of BOD in wastewater.

Dairy wastewater can be treated by adjusting the pH and using chemical coagulants. The role of coagulants in dairy wastewater treatment is that of de-emulsification (break fat-water emulsions formed due to the use of surfactants, cleaning agents and sanitizers in the process), precipitation, coagulation, and flocculation. This crucial treatment enables the dairy industry to meet its wastewater discharge norms or to afford further treatment of the wastewater for recycle or re-use.

Chembond’s range of polymeric coagulants and flocculants are formulated and extensively tested to deliver superior and consistent performance to food and dairy processing industries.
